GNSS antenna installation for NTP time servers
Sky view, cable loss, and surge protection—the three steps that decide GNSS lock stability for a cabinet NTP server.
A GNSS-disciplined NTP server needs a stable 1PPS. Mount the antenna with a clear sky view; avoid metal blockage and strong reflectors on rooftops or cabinets.
Longer coax runs and extra connectors increase loss. Prefer low-loss cable, matched connectors, and stay within the receiver module’s maximum length.
Use surge protection and solid grounding outdoors. Indoors, keep antenna cable away from parallel mains runs.
After power-up, watch LOCK on the LCD or Web UI. Warm-up is required—do not accept final timing accuracy while unlocked.
Accuracy is channel-specific: module 1PPS, TTL 1PPS out, and Ethernet NTP clients are not interchangeable metrics for tenders.
